  1. Our work with the NGV

From last year’s Terracotta Warriors & Cai Guo Qiang exhibition to the current KAWS and KAWS: Playtime interactive display, our building surveying work with The National Gallery (NGV) is always a cultural experience.

At NBS we cherish our ongoing relationship with the NGV and the teams we work in collaboration with on each fitout. We have had the pleasure of working on 15 Australian and International exhibitions over the past year, with each serving as a reminder of how fortunate we are to be involved with such iconic projects.

Last May we enjoyed Krystyna Campbell’s Pretty Fashion Gift display, featuring late nineteenth century haute-couture and Parisian fashion, followed by the Alexander Calder exhibition and Workshop for Kids. Lucy McRae’s Body Architect exhibition of beautiful colour digital images asked the question, “How will technology transform the body?” while Australian artist Darren Sylvester’s exhibition entitled Carve a Future, Devour Everything, Become Something explored our place in the universe.

Our favourite? It’s a tough one but we would have to choose the Terracotta Warriors exhibition, where this ancient Chinese army was displayed as part of the NGV’s ‘Winter Masterpieces’ series. Considered the eighth wonder of the world and regarded as one of the greatest archaeological finds of the twentieth century, it has been hypothesized that each warrior, with uniquely styled hair and features was based on real soldiers who served in the Emperor’s army.

If you missed any of these awe-inspiring experiences do not despair; the Crossing Lines, KAWS and Roger Kemp exhibitions are showing at the NGV as we speak and believe us when we say you can’t miss them… and wait ‘til you see what’s to come! Please head to our projects page.

  2. NBS TURNS ONE!

It’s hard to believe that this month signifies a whole year since we embarked on our thrilling new venture as Nicolas Building Surveyors. What a fantastic and productive first year we’ve had!

Not only have we extended our team, but our involvement with cutting-edge projects such as Ocean 12 and Holey Moley Golf Club at Crown reiterates our position as a firm that consistently delivers an efficient and collaborative experience with each project we work on.

Alongside Crown, our treasured and ongoing relationship with the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) has allowed us to build on our portfolio of iconic Melbourne projects, setting us on a trajectory we are truly proud of. This year, we also had the pleasure of working on unique residential builds such as Fitzroy House, Ferndale Townhomes and the award-winning Elwood House to name a few.

We are also thrilled to have been a part of many substantial commercial projects including Red Spice Road, Beer Deluxe Fed Square and of course the 70’s-inspired Juke’s Karaoke Bar at Crown, of which we were privileged to attend the launch party where we participated in demonstrating our somewhat questionable vocal skills.

Finally, Christmas time also included our interrelation with our clients the Aultun Property Group, whom we worked with cohesively over the years as we enjoyed a wonderful evening at their annual Christmas party held at the Grand Hyatt. All in all, a very eventful year indeed!

The Building Surveying industry is undergoing change on many facets and is considered to translate to increased levels of quality assurance and service delivery. To this end, NBS are consciously passionate about nurturing the relationships we have with our clients and industry partners to ensure target outcomes are achieved within the required regulatory framework.

Our ability to offer professional, reliable and premium services was strengthened when we recently joined the Construction Supplier Register (CSR) prequalification scheme, proving that we possess the necessary expertise, management systems and financial capacity to undertake Victorian Government construction projects.

This year we worked on further developing our internal processes, to increase efficiency in assessment of designs and engage the design team in the checking process at a higher level. We are also working towards our QA Certification in ISO 9001, allowing us to continuously improve and measure our performance at the highest standard.

Our vision is to create an interactive process with cutting edge technologies that engage our clients, consultants and other key stakeholders. Furthermore, we are committed to enhancing the quality of each outcome sought and to giving each project its own unique significance.

Our mantra, ‘Driven. Direct. Assured.’ has never stood truer but we also recently noted with interest this famous quote which can endeavour to inspire us all.

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement”.

    Author, Helen Keller

Keeping the faith in testing times can lead to all kinds of amazing opportunities and we are extremely grateful and would like to acknowledge and thank everyone who has supported us this year.

With exciting projects like The Walk Arcade refurbishment kicking off soon, we look to the year ahead with anticipation.

We look forward to working with you and enjoying a productive 2020!
